Amerikalinjen

At LS Entreprenør, we are proud of our many assignments since the company was established in 2006.

Among our most extensive assignments is Amerikalinjen in Oslo – where we have rehabilitated a historic building and at the same time built a brand-new hotel. Awards, distinctions, and recognition received for both hotel and building are all acknowledgements of a job well done. We also take to heart the fact that hotel king Petter Stordalen himself joined in the applause.

We were handed the full contract for the challenging and exciting transforming of former head office of Amerikalinjen (Norwegian American Line) into a boutique hotel with 122 rooms, restaurants, commercial kitchens, bars, and a wellness area. The majestic building with its historical content and links to the United States of the 1920s has been given new life.
The work started in January 2018, and the building was completed in March 2019. At most, we engaged 150 people for the assignment.

The building from 1919 has its own distinctive style, both in terms of exterior and interior design, and the task of incorporating historical details into the new concept was a challenging one. The building was given status as protected site; consequently, all the work was done in close collaboration with Byantikvaren (Director of Cultural Heritage Management) in Oslo.

“The rebuilding of Amerikalinjen is one of the most successful recent projects the Cultural Heritage Office has participated in. In our experience, all participants shared the goal of bringing the unique historical qualities into a new era. The cooperation between us, including regular meetings on the construction site, worked very well – the contractor contributed with good and creative solutions to sometimes complex challenges.”

A well-functioning collaboration with the architect, interior architect, client, and hotel operator was crucial for a good result. The work performed by project managers and craftsmen on the American line deserves due respect.

“I had the pleasure of working with LS Entreprenør on the construction of the Amerikalinjen. LS proved to be a very professional player, always solution-oriented and positive about ensuring progress and quality in a demanding project with many stakeholders. What I shall remember best is the good and constructive collaboration with the people behind the company. They are very skilled professionals, but also exceptionally nice people.”
